Folks on the fence about attending the EXXOTICA Expo in Dallas this coming weekend need waver no more. Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals, the notable sociologist who just released her first book, Exposure: A Sociologist Explores Sex, Society, and Adult Entertainment, will be moderating a panel about the portrayal of sex in Hollywood media, along with a few special guests.
The panel, which will occur August 9th, the final day of the expo, was birthed by Dr. Chauntelle and is called “Trainwreck: How Hollywood Portrays Sex.” According to press information regarding the panel, the discussion will examine Hollywood’s supposed reverence of sex and how the very same media goliath shames unconventional practices. Figures in the adult industry will offer their thoughts, trying to show what different sides of media can learn from one another.
“I’m very pleased at the amazing panel we’ve brought together, which will examine the way Hollywood portrays sexuality,” stated Tibbals. “The new comedy Trainwreck is a great starting point for the discussion, since it features Amy Schumer trying to define and understand modern sexuality, while working within the confines of a Hollywood script.”
According to the information on the EXXXOTICA site, the panel will get to the heart of how “characters that embrace what is deemed an overly sexual nature must change… Characters who crave sex in a monogamous relationship are applauded, while characters enjoying an abundance of sex outside of monogamy are often demonized or require saving.”
Not only is the theme of the panel academically and societally riveting, the guest panelists make up a compelling cast of conversationalists. Featured in Dr. Chauntelle’s chat are the cam performer Kendra Sunderland – you may know her from that library thing – adult star and former model Sydney Leathers – you may know her from that Anthony Weiner thing – as well as contract performer for Blacked.com Flash Brown, and Ashley Fires, a notable figure in the world of BDSM.
“It’s fun, sexy, and thought provoking,” said EXXXOTICA organizer J. Handy about the panel. “The superstar panelists will provide attendees with some great insight into the portrayal of sex in Hollywood and the adult industry.”
“I enjoy interacting with the fans,” commented Brown. “I always speak frankly on what is real sex versus porn movie sex, so this seminar is definitely up my alley.”
Sunderland showed her exuberance at the chance to join the panel, saying, “it’s a great topic and I’m sure we will learn a lot about each other too.”
Dr. Chauntelle’s star studded panel will be held on Sunday at 5pm at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, but definitely check out the rest of the convention, running from the 7th to the 9th, to enjoy a staggering quantity of vendors, performer appearances and expert driven seminars and workshops on sex, love, and the industry. Enlightening and enlivening for both mind and body!
