Retro Porn Review - Night After Night

A little known director named Gary Khan did Night After Night (an also not-so-known adult movie from 1975) as his last foray into porn. Not much is known about him, but if we had to guess something from his final title, is that the man was probably married and wanting more.

Three married male friends used to share their stories of monotonous sex with their wives (carefully leaving the embarrassing parts out, of course), dreading the fact they had to be with the same woman “night after night”. Each of them had his own inadequacy with his spouse, but they all shared the common fantasy of being with another woman.

They clearly had jobs with a flexible schedule, because that’s what they’d do: sit on a park bench in the middle of the afternoon and discuss their dream woman. The statuesque blonde with a brunette bush. The woman who would listen. The woman who wouldn’t talk. They all craved different things, but also wanted this magical creature to accommodate them all.

On one of their afternoon hangs, after so much fantasizing, they finally decided to act on it. They’d find their statuesque blonde together, and alternate to see her, while meeting after at the park to discuss it some more.

Darby Lloyd Rains plays The Blonde (that was the name given in the credits), a beautiful, horny and savvy prostitute the guys agreed to see once a week. Winston (Eric Edwards) would go on Tuesdays, Bernie (Alan Marlow) on Thursdays and Sam (Jamie Gillis) would have Saturdays.

But Winston’s (exaggerated) stories from the first Tuesday were so convincing, the other two couldn’t wait for their own day, and made their way to her that same afternoon. As it turns out, she was every bit as accommodating as their wildest dreams could have expected.

A lot of the sex with their own wives would also be shown, sometimes while one of the guys was fucking The Blonde and, well… the others had to spend their time doing something, I guess.

The three couples would often be shown alternately for long montages of sex. There are plenty of extreme close-ups, which, depending where you stand on those, can be a good or a bad thing (I find it a little annoying when done too often). Having said that, the sex is mostly passionate and well shot.

While there’s some music (and it’s good), the movie stands out among its contemporaries by having lots of sex time without music; just absorbing the ambience of the sex sounds from all three scenes. The effect of showing these three men’s sexual lives intertwined was accomplished. In a way, it’s kind of a “buddy sex movie”, if you will. They wanted their dream woman, but wanted to share that with their friends in a non (evidently, anyway) gay way. It’s sweet, really. And a little weird.
