Uhm, so I’ve just stumbled onto something awesome. It’s so damn awesome I have to share it here. With you. I’d like to introduce you to The Outdoor Co-ed Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society or OCETPFAS. I’m a huge fan of reading and a rather large fan of boobs. So imagine combining the two together – a book club with clothing optional! From their website:

“We’re a group of friends, and friends of friends, and friends of friends of friends, and complete strangers, who love good books and sunny days and enjoying both as nearly in the altogether as the law allows. Happily, in New York City, the law allows toplessness by both men and women. So that’s the way we do our al fresco reading.

OCETPFAS started in August 2011 and have since been holding book club gatherings all over New York where women get together to read. Topless. Sometimes even bottomless. Now it might seem that I’m getting all lad-like about this whole boobs thing. But really, I’ve always wondered why men get the luxury of walking around topless (where it’s allowed) but women can get arrested for breastfeeding in public.

Heck beaches are full of bare chested men prancing around but women need to wear a bikini top. In fact, in some places women can get arrested for going topless on a beach. Luckily New York City is not one of those places. Ultimately the objective of OCETPFAS – aside from enjoying the sun, reading and chilling – is to create awareness that the big apple allows toplessness in public and to change our attitudes to the exposure of breasts.

It is so weird how people seem to react to this body part on a woman. From something that is overly eroticized to something that is considered gross when used to feed a child to something that is ‘dirty’ when seen outside a sexual context. And it’s not just men; it’s women too who aren’t comfortable with public exposure of boobs.

So far so good for the group. They report they haven’t been harassed by the public or the police. If you feel inclined to join the cause, or perhaps to just get an even tan, then anyone is invited to join them on their jaunts. So far between 3-15 women have gathered at Madison Square Garden, Bryant park, Central Park, New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, Washington Square and more. It’s a good day for boobs!
