When it comes to sex and porn some of us may worry about shooting blanks, but South African artist Brandt Botes (aka Von Brandis) is making you fill in the blanks instead.
Taking pictures from vintage pornos, Von Brandis removes all of the titillation and sex, leaving instead a white silhouette that allows the viewer to use their imagination to fill out the spaces.
By removing the organic and human elements from the subject, Van Brandis might be showing us how mechanical and replaceable we as people are when it comes to sex. Or even the transparency of the glamour of a life in porn. It’s open to interpretation, such is the beauty of art.
