So there’s going to be an Episode VII directed by J. J. Abrams – I cannot wait. This could either be the best thing ever or the worst. But that’s beside the point. The point is, with a $10 donation you will be in the running for a chance to appear in Star Wars: Episode VII!

J. J. Abrams has released a video announcing a new charity campaign run by Disney, Lucasfilm and his own company, Bad Robot, called Star Wars: Force for Change. In the video he asks people to donate as little as US$10 (but hopefully more) to UNICEF for the chance to play a role in new sci-fi sequel.

The grand prize winner and a partner will be flown to Episode VII’s Pinewood Studio as guests of J. J. Abrams where they’ll be ‘transformed’ by costumes and given a role in the next Star Wars movie. What those roles might be is unclear; the new story is heavily guarded and one can only speculate. But you can be sure whatever the role is, whether you are draped in cloth or fur, it will still be a story to tell the grandkids about. I mean seriously. I am donating as I write this.

Want A Part in Star Wars Episode VII?

Of course if you have deeper pockets than I (I am but a mere writer) and are willing to part with your cash, then go ahead and donate $25,000 for a chance to watch the movie a day before it’s release date in December 2015 at Lucasfilms. Or if you prefer to watch an advanced screening with up to 20 of your friends, then be ready to fork out $50,000 (only $2,500 per person. Not super bad. Right? Right?). Personally I would be satisfied with a limited edition lightsaber hilt for only $5,000. Or, you know, a role in the film.

Really, it’s for the children

At least know that your money will be put to good use – to create a brighter future for thousands of kids and families around the world. All money earned through this campaign will go UNICEF’s Innovation Labs in order to develop innovative solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges.
