Xue Wang, a Chinese-born artist now residing in London, has a very distinctive style. At first glance, you’d be forgiven for thinking that her work is cute, what with all those doll-like, big-eyed girls, but it won’t take more than another few seconds to discover that there’s a lot more going on, things of a surprisingly dark and sinister nature. Sometimes visceral and bloody, Xue Wang’s work still manages to convey a sense of humor, albeit a wry and twisted variety. This is gothic comic horror, a cocktail of wit, sensuality and apprehension.
