moot Leaves 4chan

4chan founder moot has today announced his retirement from the popular image board.

moot, aka Chris Poole, created the site in 2004 aged just 15 and has since weathered the storm as the site’s captain, overseeing rapid growth, becoming one the melting pots for the rise of Anonymous and one of the go-to places online as well as the turmoil and controversy.

In a statement, Poole lamented the fact that as “4chan’s sole administrator, decision maker, and keeper of most of its institutional knowledge, I’ve come to represent an uncomfortably large single point of failure.”

Passing on control to a team of senior volunteers, Poole remains unsure as to how his future relationship with the site he created will pan out, writing that he looks forward to either “one day returning to 4chan as its Admin Emeritus or just another Anonymous.”

moot’s retirement will be mourned, but 4chan will rumble on regardless. Here’s to another 11 years.
